Rain Barrels

Are a great way to control where the water flows in your yard. Rain barrels are used to collect the rain and recycle it throughout your eco-friendly gardens.

Why collect rain? you ask.

Conserves water and save money on your water bill.

Can be used as a reservoir for water shortages and is naturally a soft water. Is a healthy alternative source for watering your grass and your garden.

Is a great way to brew compost tea. Making a compost tea for your garden improves soil health and promotes microorganisms turning bad bacteria into good bacteria. Creating (energy) photosynthesis and microbes for your self-sustaining garden.

Then if you are a soap maker it can be used to make soap.

I also keep a 3-5 day rule with standing water and that it must be used within 3-5 days. Otherwise it becomes stagnant and unusable. You could also just add an air bubbler to your barrel so that the water doesn’t become stagnant.

Oh, course this is not a drinking water unless you distilled it. All barrels should made from a food grade type of materials too.

Barrels can be raised above the ground for a faster flow almost emptying your barrel completely with a stand. Then, just connect a hose to the spout and wash your car.

Keeping your rain barrel clean regularly is also important making sure there is no debris. This requires a sponge and soap and then completely rinse all the soap out. Don’t forget to empty prior to freezing weather to prevent cracking.

Plus you want to keep a cover over it to keep bugs, animals and debris out of the barrel.
